Trekking In Nepal, Gear Lists
For many western traveller Nepal is an isolated country tucked into the Himalayas living on its own and that is the main reason traveller flock to Nepal to trek and to hike in to he natural wonder land. That is true for most of the part but Nepal is well connected with outer world and has everything you ever need to complete your travel. That being said we have compiled list of items that are best suited for you to bring from your home country if you want to save some cash.
The size of your backpack depends primarily on whether or not you have porters on your trip. Those with porters usually carry a daypack with water, snacks, a camera, and rain gear. Those without porters will need a larger pack to fit all of their personal supplies and sleeping equipment. Certain items can be purchased in Nepal but buying critical pieces of outdoor equipment is not recommended.
Sleeping bag : If you are regular traveller then you might already have a sleeping bag at your home it is good idea to bring whatever you have –15° bag is sufficient for any treks with in Nepal. Besides there are abundant tea houses.
Backpack : It is good idea to bring your own backpack for the trip although you can get backpacks in Kathmandu you will be in rush to get started, sometimes you may not have enough time to shop around so bring your own backpack of decent size.
Hiking boots are must to bring from your home country and make sure to break them. Wear them couple of times and practice to walk on them so that you fell comfortable because through out the trip you will be wearing those boots for hours and hours sometimes up to 12 hours. Make sure to get one with the ankle support even better is full backpacking boots, that provide good support and protection from the elements. You may have to walk on snow and the conditions will be cold.
Jackets and trekking pants are must if you are travelling to the higher altitude, get one that you feel the most comfortable with. It will be wise to get one that is waterproof. Your can get those in Kathmandu but to be on the safe side it is good idea to bring form you home country.
Camp shoes, Wool socks, Trekking shorts, T-Shirts, Underwear, Sweater, Fleece, Winter hat, Winter gloves, Water purification, Water bottles, cap, Hiking poles, Sunglasses, Head lamp with extra batteries, Reading materials, Journal and pens, Camera with extra batteries, Sun screen, Hand sanitizer, Toiletries , Biodegradable bar soap, Face/body wipes, Biodegradable washing liquid, Throat lozenges, lip balm, Medications, First aid kit etc are good to bring but are easily and cheaply available in Kathmandu. Be sure to have at least one day for shopping and prepare you checklist so that you do not leave essential items.
